AoE2Insights started the way many good things do — with two friends and a shared obsession.

We're Kevin Armenat and Jakob Rößler, and we've known each other for years. Age of Empires II was a big part of both our childhoods, but at some point life happened and the game faded into the background.

That changed in 2019. We picked it up again — and it stuck. What started as a casual "let's play one game" turned into a Monday night ritual that we've kept up ever since. Every week, same time, same game.

From players to builders

As we got more into the competitive side, we discovered aoe2.net and loved what it offered: leaderboards, player profiles, match history. But we kept wanting more. We wanted to understand how our games played out — not just who won, but what happened and why. Build orders, economy curves, military compositions, decision points.

So we built it ourselves. We launched AoE2Insights with the goal of bringing in-depth match analysis to a game we care about deeply.

Growing with the community

Honestly, we got lucky. The AoE2 community welcomed us from day one. Players started using the analysis tools, streamers picked it up, and we received feedback and encouragement that kept us going. We didn't expect that kind of support, and we're grateful for every bit of it.
